Understanding Metabolic Syndrome and Its Importance
Metabolic syndrome is a set of conditions that can harm how your body works, making you more likely to have serious health problems like diabetes, heart disease, or stroke. One big issue in metabolic syndrome is called "Insulin Resistance." Insulin is a key hormone that has many functions but it is mainly known for helping the sugar from our food give us energy. But, the cells don't listen to insulin like they should, which can cause trouble.

To be diagnosed with metabolic syndrome, a person usually has at least three of these conditions: high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high triglycerides (a type of fat), low "good" cholesterol (called HDL), or a large waistline (waist circumference). The following factors are known to contribute to this condition: insulin resistance, obesity, genetics, and physical inactivity.
There are things that can help improve and manage this condition. Eating foods that are less processed and full of nutrients can make a big difference. We can work together to fill your kitchen with tasty, nutritious foods that won't break the bank or leave you hungry. And adding regular movement to your routine can also improve your health.
I want to share a few of the symptoms and issues that individuals with this condition may experience:
Fatigue
Increased hunger
Increased thirst and urination
Darkening of skin behind the neck, armpits, and under the breast (acanthosis nigricans)
Frequent infections of the skin, vaginal, urinary, or other areas
Tingling hands and/or feet
Blurred vision
PCOS- Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, irregular menstrual cycles, painful menstruation, and/or infertility

If you are interested in knowing your risk factor for metabolic syndrome or insulin resistance
talk to your doctor and ask them to order blood work for:
Fasting Glucose
Fasting Insulin
Lipid profile
Hemoglobin A1c
Blood pressure
